Cause #1: You’ve got high blood sugar

When you have high blood sugars in your stream, your body gets thirsty and your bladder gets full. If you’re experiencing this along with increased hunger and urination, then it may be time for your doctor to check you out for pre-diabetes.

Cause #2: There’s an infection

Doesn’t it hurt when you go to the bathroom? Usually this is the first sign that you may have a UTI. Urinary tract infections (UTIs) are painful yet common issues associated with frequent urination. It is more common for women to experience a urinary tract infection because they have a shorter urethra than men. Bacteria has a much shorter journey to the bladder in women – and this can increase the chances of infection. If you suspect you have a urinary tract infection, you’ll need to get a prescription medicine from your doctor to get it to clear up. So don’t delay in getting to the doctor.

Cause #3: You’re drinking too much water

If you’re drinking too much water – especially distilled water – than you could be filling up your bladder too quickly. This is a common issue with runners who cover long distances. They drink too much water because they assume that more is always better. But in fact, this can turn into a problem. Distilled water extracts sodium from your kidneys and could result in a condition known as hyponatremia.

Cause #4: You’re drinking too much coffee, wine and beer

Alcohol and coffee are diuretics, and they trigger going to the bathroom frequently if you are over-consuming them. Everything is in balance – including coffee and alcohol. Small amounts shouldn’t affect your body negatively. But if you have a wild weekend with your alcohol, then expect to be making lots of trips to the bathroom. Give your kidneys a break and flush out some of the toxins in alcohol by drinking water.
